The Pioneer Woman Museum Presents:



Pine Needle Basket Weaving

This class is a beginner coiling class, using long-leaf natural and dyed pine needles.  The needles will be coiled on gourds and embellished. 

Date and Time: Saturday, September 9th from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. 
Registration Deadline: Thursday, August 31st.
Cost: $40.00 per participant, includes materials. 
Instructor:  Rena Vickery

Holds a Bushel

This class is geared to the beginner to intermediate student, and features Redbird wooden handles, and dyed and natural reed.  It is useful for laundry or many other things, such as VCR tapes on the TV stand.  During the one-day class, students will make an 8” x 13” x 18” basket. Participants must supply the following materials: one small hand towel, one pair of scissors. 

Date and Time:  Saturday, September 16, 2007 from Noon-5:00 p.m.  Registration Deadline: Thursday, September 14th.
Cost:
$30.00 class fee per participant; $31.00 materials fee to be paid to instructor on day of class.

Fall Flowers Basket

This class is for beginner to intermediate students and features a “D” handle, natural and dyed rattan reed, handmade vines and either handmade or bought flowers.  This 5-hour class will allow the student time to complete their project and take home a basket that is 5”x7”x9” (14” high with handle.)

Date and Time:  Saturday, October 20th from 12:00noon - 5:00p.m. 
Registration Deadline:
Thursday, October 18th.
Cost:
$30.00 class fee per participant; $22.00 materials fee to be paid to instructor on day of class.

Quilt Retreat at the Pioneer Woman Museum

Come enjoy 2 ½ days at the museum to learn new techniques, free-sew time and enjoy loads of fun with other quilters. 

Date and Time: Thursday evening: October 25- Sunday morning, October 28th
Registration Deadline:
Tuesday, October 1, wait list after this date. 
Cost:
$180 per participant, to include workshops, lunch and dinners.  Lodging separate.

Indian Corn Cobs 

This exciting class is for beginners to intermediate students and features three rattan reed corncobs woven with four dyed colors.  A raffia bow ties them all together for a nice fall door decoration.  The size of these “cobs” are 18” long by 2 ½” diameter. 

Date and Time:  Saturday, November 10th from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Registration Deadline: Thursday, November 8th.
Cost:
$35.00 class fee per participant; $17.00 materials fee to be paid to instructor on day of class.

Christmas Stocking Basket Weaving

This class focuses on weaving a stocking shaped basket, perfect for holiday decorating. Students may choose to do 1 large stocking or 3 smaller stocking ornaments. Students should bring lunch, scissors, a plastic spray bottle for water, and any small ornaments with which they wish to decorate their stocking basket. 

Date and Time:  Saturday, December 1st from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Registration Deadline: Thursday, November 31.
Cost:
$40.00 class fee per participant; $32.00 materials fee to be paid to instructor on day of class.

“Voices in the Tallgrass”:
 Native Women Artists of Oklahoma

An exhibit, that will showcase a large variety of very talented Native Women Artists of Oklahoma. The artists will share with the viewer their ideas, influences and thoughts about their art.





Centennial Quilt Challenge Contest and Exhibit:
Oklahoma’s Pioneering Spirit:
1907-2007, 100 years of History and What it Means to You!

 September 23, 2007- February 24, 2008 
(Opening reception will be Sunday, September 23; 2-4pm)

Quilts and other items will be accepted from August 11 – September 15, 2007.

This challenge will be announced nation wide, to include those artists with roots in Oklahoma, people who live in Oklahoma, people who have visited Oklahoma and those who dream of Oklahoma. The challenge is open to all ages and ribbons will be awarded.   We have graciously been funded by the PM Patches Quilt Guild and the Pioneer Quilt Guild for prize money in the following amounts!

Prizes:

Grand Prize - $100

1st Prizes - $50

 2nd Prizes - $35

 3rd Prizes - $20

 Judge’s Choices - $10

 Honorable Mentions - $10

"2008 WOMAN OF THE YEAR" Contest Announced

PONCA CITY, OK -The Pioneer Woman Museum is holding the 5th annual "WOMAN OF THE YEAR" Contest. Everyone is welcome to submit a nomination form for his or her choice of 2008 Pioneer Woman Museum "Woman of the Year." The deadline for this contest is March 15, 2008.

"The Museum would like to offer the citizens of Oklahoma the opportunity to nominate their choice of notable women for the year 2007. This woman, living or deceased, should have been or be active in her community and considered a `notable' woman in Oklahoma."
